2015 Magna Carta £2 Coin
The 2015 Magna Carta £2 coin was issued by The Royal Mint to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, the historic charter sealed by King John of England in 1215 at Runnymede. The Magna Carta is widely considered one of the foundations of modern democracy and the rule of law.
Designed by John Bergdahl, the reverse features a medieval-style image of King John holding the Magna Carta document, flanked by two noblemen, reflecting the balance of power established by the charter.
The edge inscription reads:
“FOUNDATIONS OF LIBERTY”, reinforcing the enduring impact of the Magna Carta’s legacy.
With a circulated mintage of 1,495,000, this is one of the lower-mintage £2 coins, making it highly collectable for fans of British history, law, and monarchy-themed coins.
