The 2016 Great Fire of London £2 coin was issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London, a devastating blaze that reshaped the city in 1666.
Designed by Aaron West, the reverse features a powerful depiction of London’s skyline in flames, with stylised architecture and smoke billowing across the scene. The design captures the scale and drama of the event, which destroyed much of the medieval city.
The edge inscription reads:
“THE WHOLE CITY IN DREADFUL FLAMES” — a quote taken from a contemporary account of the fire.
With a circulated mintage of 1,625,000, the Great Fire of London £2 coin is relatively scarce and highly collectable, particularly for those interested in British history and iconic city events.
